About the event
Robert Lloyd Parry will be reading ghost stories from one of the best ghost story writers of all time; M R James. The two chosen tales are 'Oh, Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad' and 'The Ash-tree'.
Oh, Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad is a story set on the Suffolk coast and features a peculiar bronze whistle and long nights that haunt the protagonist. This piece is often considered to be M R James' masterpiece. It is complemented excellently by The Ash-tree, another Suffolk story that takes place at the close of witch trial hysteria where a wealthy woman is accused of witchcraft.
Robert Lloyd Parry has been touring as M R James since 2005 as part of the M R James Project and featured in Mark Gatiss' BBC Documentary M R James: Ghost Writer as the author himself. He has himself produced, written and presented two documentaries based on James’ work: Wits in Felixstowe and Dim Presences.
